Swiss Capacity Building Facility for Income and Employment Generation (SCBF)

Press release April 2011:  English / French / German

The Swiss Capacity Building Facility for Income and Employment Generation (SBCF) was founded in April 2011 as a public-private development partnership (PPDP) with the objective to promote income and employment generation in partner countries of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) by scaling up financial intermediaries.

SCBF addresses the two key constraints faced by financial intermediaries in expanding their outreach:
1. Developing and retaining skilled and dedicated management and staff; and
2. Mobilizing funding from investors in order to maintain and grow their institutions.

The SCBF focusses on interventions with a clear social mission to serve women and rural areas, farmers, micro enterprises and small enterprises (SMEs). Increasing access to financial services to these segments of the population will empower poor households allowing them to strengthen their economic potential, build up physical and financial assets, protecting their families through better housing, health and education, and improving resilience to economic shocks.

Swiss Competence Centers, Swiss Social Investors and SDC country offices are invited to submit innovative capacity building proposals for projects to be implemented in Financial Intermediaries in the South. Find eligibility criteria, how to apply and more.

The founding partners are Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Credit Suisse, Financial Systems Development Services AG (FIDES), Swisscontact, swiss microfinance holding, and Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. (Zurich).
