Katalyst
The Katalyst project tackles rural poverty with an M4P approach. Its aim is to stimulate pro-poor growth by improving the competitiveness of selected sectors in which the poor participate (e.g. vegetable, maize, fish, prawn, potato); it covers most districts of the country. The project is co-funded by SDC, UK Department for International Development (UKaid), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN). Implementation is done by Swisscontact and GIZ International Services.

A case study illustrates the way Katalyst achieves results by showing how a contracting system in maize production was promoted.

In 2008, the E+I section mandated a comparison of the M4P framework and the sustainable livelihood approach (SLA). As a part of this comparison, case studies of the Katalyst project (as an example of M4P) and the LEAF-SHAAKTI projects (as an example of SHL) - all SDC projects in Bangladesh were conducted. Download the case study here.
